Chairman, Senate Committee on the newly established North Central Development Commission, NCDC, Senator Titus Zam (APC, Benue North West) said the commission would commence its first assignment by championing the return of Internally Displaced Persons, IDPs, to their ancestral homes, as well as provide security to the affected communities.
Zam stated this while reacting to the reconfirmation of Lafia, the Nasarawa State capital as headquarters of the commission.
Senator Zam, representing Benue North West said the choice of Lafia as the headquarters of the North Central Development Commission is due to its centrality.
He said even though some people advocated for the siting of the commission in Benue, but however, certain factors were reconsidered and the Senate finally adopted Lafia as the headquarters.
He said the commission would help to propel rapid development in the zone, including improvement of the quality of life for the affected people as a result of herders-farmers clash.
The senator disclosed that even though the zone is made up of many tribes, it would not hamper its development, because there would be equal representation to attract development to each area.
The lawmaker thanked President Bola Tinubu for establishing the commission and assured that it would live up to expectations.
