Naval Officer Sues In-law Over Alleged Defamation

A Naval officer, Commodore Kennedy Ozokoye has sued his in-law Mr Tochukwu Onovo over alleged defamation

He alleged that Mr Onovo, a civil servant with Ministry of Agriculture, Lafia, Nasarawa State had petitioned him to the Naval authority alleging brutalization and threat to life.

Recall that in a letter dated 2nd November 2023, Onovo had petitioned the Nigerian Navy and referred to the Claimant as “irresponsible and unworthy of occupying any position of authority” this the claimant alleged was “Malicious, injurious and libelous ”

The action of petitioning to the Navy authority by Onovo did not go down well with commodore Ozokoye who approached the Court for redress claiming 100 million as damage.

Earlier, the matter has twice been deferred for hearing before Honourable Justice B. Hassan of Jabi-Abuja Federal court.

The hearing will commence Thursday, 4th July in the Maitama division of the Federal High Court, Federal Capital Territory, Abuja
