A group under the auspices of Network of Civil Society Organisations in Nigeria has passed a vote of confidence on the President of the 10th Senate, Senator Godswill Akpabio, urging him not to be distracted and continue to stir the Senate on the path of equity and justice for all it’s members and Nigerians .

It noted that the president of the Senate as the head of the legislative arm of government needs to be supported to help the executive arm achieve the Hope Renewal Agenda of Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration.

The group which described the disagreement over seating arrangement at the red chamber and allegations of sexual harassment by Sen. Natasha Akpoti -Uduagwan against the president of the Senate as unnecessary and distraction of the Senate called for calm in the brewing disagreement between the two federal legislators

Speaking at a press conference in Abuja , National coordinator of the Network of Civil Society Organisations in Nigeria, Comrade Victor Kalu appealed for an amicable resolution of the matter, adding that resort to spurious allegations of sexual harassment was unfounded and unproductive

He noted that the time spent on such theatrices will be channelled towards quality legislation that will have far reaching impact on the welfare and well being of Nigerians.

Kalu said ” As a coalition of sixty- five independent and non – governmental civil society organisations from across the country with a shared vision and mandate to help protect and promote citizens right and advance the course of democracy and good governance , we hereby pass a vote of confidence on the president of the Senate and his leadership and urge him to continue to stir the Senate on the path of equity and justice for all it’s members in particular and Nigerians at large

” We wish to use this medium to appeal to all our distinguished senators as well as other well meaning Nigerians to continue to support the leadership of the 10th Senate to ensure that this matter is immediately brought to an early resolution, to enable the upper chambers concentrate on it’s constitutional mandate of legislation for the good of Nigerians to avoid distractions”
