National Assembly Joint Committee on Works yesterday held a one-day Local Contractors Summit with Optimum Horizon Limited alongside other development partners, critical stakeholders and financial institutions to tackle the challenges faced by local contractors in the execution of projects.

In his welcome address at the summit with the theme; ‘Empowering Local Contractors for National Development: Bridging Gaps and Building Partnership,’ the Chairman, House of Representatives Committee on Works, Akin Alabi highlighted some of the challenges being encountered by local contractors when bidding for contracts, assuring that through effective  collaborative efforts, some challenges had been identified and would be dealt with as soon as possible to enable them have access to government contracts and findings.

The lawmaker assured that the summit would help in addressing the critical challenges faced by local contractors, as well as foster dialogue and build contractors competitiveness for credibility.

He noted that the primary objective of the summit was to create a viable platform where local contractors could connect with critical stakeholders, financial institutions and government.

Technocrats and experts commended the joint committee for the partnership, stating that it will benefit most local contractors and the country in terms of growth and infrastructural development.

The one-day event will enable attendees gain practical knowledge about best practices in procurement, as well as maintain compliance and leverage on regulatory framework to compete fairly with foreign contractors for successfully project execution.

Meanwhile, AljazirahNigeria gathered that the summit would provide local contractors with the opportunity to openly discuss their experiences and challenges.
