NASC Emphases Importance Of Staff Training For Optimal Benefit

The Executive Chairman, National Assembly Service Commission, NASC, Ahmed Amshi, today, reiterated his readiness for continuous training of National Assembly staff for the purpose of enhancing their capacity as well as ensuring an efficient law-making process.

NASC boss was speaking while declaring open a 3-day training workshop organised by the management of House of Representatives for legislative staff.

NASC chairman further disclosed that the Workshop training titled, “Enhancing Capacity for Legislative Services’’ is meant to improve legislative and parliamentary staff input for excellence services.

The Executive Chairman was represented at the occasion by Sen. Abubakar Tutare, who informed participants’ presence that National Assembly will benefit the entire country as they play a critical role in law-making process.

 According to the Executive Chairman, “Training is a priority under my tenure as chairman of NASC, because it is only in training and retraining that we can develop the capacity of our staff and the need to develop capacity cannot be over emphasized”.

Speaking further the chairman said “Where we are in National Assembly is where laws are made for the country; there are laws made by elected politicians who may or may not have the knowledge or expertise of law-making process.

“For them to be successful, they will need your contribution and guidance, so the need for all necessary training in law drafting to ensure good governance in the country”.

In his address, the Clerk of the House of Representatives, Dr. Yahaya Danzaria used the occasion to appreciate the Speaker of the House of Representatives. Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila for supporting the parliamentary staff training.

According to him,  the training targets the core legislative officers in the areas of Chamber Services, Table Duties, Rules and Business, Legislative Scrutiny as well as  Committee System just to mention but a few.

Danzaria further disclosed that besides the general training in legislative practice and procedure, they always focus on key and peculiar areas of legislative activities that only trained officers have the capacity to handle for maximum productivity.

“I have a strong conviction that the best way to maintain optimum performance and productivity in any system or organisation is to empower the workers that form the pillars of the organisation.

“Through this capacity building, we build strong institutions, and make them work; I have no doubt that at the end of the programme, the beneficiaries will be better equipped for greater service to the legislature and the Nigerian state,’’ he said.

“I therefore urge all participants to this workshop to listen to the experts who will be engaging you these few days to gain more knowledge and experience that would impact further in your daily call to duty.

“On our part, we will strive to provide you with the enabling environment with the resources available. I wish you fruitful and result-oriented interactions.
