Management of Nasarawa State University, Keffi, has suspended the Students Union Government, SUG, election which was conducted in various campuses of the university on Wednesday, September 4.
The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Sa’adatu Liman announced the suspension when she addressed the contending aspirants on Thursday.
Professor Liman, who expressed management’s displeasure over the outcome of the inconclusive students election, said the move to suspend further activity on the elections was to allow frayed nerves to be calm and forestall any perceived breakdown of law and order.
The vice chancellor stated that an investigative committee will be set up to investigate the immediate and remote causes of the fracas that disrupted the smooth conclusion of the election.
She assured that security agencies are also working round the clock to ensure that there is no breakdown of law and order in the school, and urged the aspirants to address their numerous supporters on the need to maintain peace and order.
In their separate responses, the two contending aspirants, Osome Babangida and Ridwan Barade, while apologising for the unruly behaviour of some of their supporters, assured the vice chancellor and principal officers of the university of their commitment to maintain peace and order, and call their respective camps to order.
