Nasarawa Govt Seeks Media Support To Promote Policies, Programmes

Nasarawa State Government has sought for a robust media partnership to promote accurate reportage of its policies and programmes.

Dr Ibrahim Tanko, the Commissioner for Information, Culture and Tourism in the state made the call Tuesday in Lafia during his familiarisation tour of media houses.

The commissioner, accompanied by the Permanent Secretary, Mr Yusuf Musa and Management staff of the ministry, visited the Nigeria Union of Journalists ,NUJ, Nigeria Television Authority ,NTA, Nasarawa Broadcasting Service ,NBS, Breeze FM and Precious FM.

He said that accurate reportage of government policies and programmes would keep the public abreast of the developmental strides of the Gov. Abdullahi Sule-led administration.

“I know that this administration is doing its best to ensure that the information sector is given priority to enhance information dissemination.

“I want to assure you that we are here to strengthen the existing partnership between the media and government.

“This administration is doing a lot and  there is need for the public to get accurate information about what the government is doing”, Tanko said.

On the request to furnish the Press Centre, the commissioner said that  government would look into it with a view to motivate journalists to do their job objectively.

Tanko applauded the governor for prioritising the information sector and providing necessary support, including the donation of buses to the NUJ and the Correspondent Chapel, and renovation of the NUJ Secretariat.

In their separate remarks, Comrades Salihu Alkali, NUJ Chairman, Hajiya Rahmatu Salaudeen of NTA, and Malam Awalu Salihu, Executive Vice-Chairman, NBS, thanked the commissioner for the visit.

They also assured him of their support.

Alkali also appealed to the state government to give pilgrimage slots to NUJ in the future.
