Nigerian Air Force, NAF, has said that it will investigate the deadly airstrikes that recently killed more than 10 people in Gidan Sama and Rumtuwa communities in the Silame Local Government area of the northwestern Sokoto State.
The civilian deaths occurred when fighter jets bombed two communities during an operation targeting terrorists on Wednesday, authorities said.
Apart from the no fewer than 10 civilians deaths, several others were injured in the airstrike.
Confirming the incident yesterday, Spokesman for the Nigerian Air Force, Olusola Akinboyewa, said an investigation would be conducted to determine the actual number of victims.
According to Akinboyewa, the airstrikes were conducted based on credible intelligence from multiple sources, along with confirmatory aerial surveillance. Nevertheless, reports of possible harm to civilians will be thoroughly investigated”.
AljazirahNigeria recalls that similar incident occured in Tudun Biri village, Igabi Local Government Area of Kaduna State, December 5, 2023.
The victims were gathered to observe Eid-el-Maulud the birthday of the Prophet Muhammad ,PBUH.
The Nigerian Army subsequently confirmed 85 civilians killed in army’s ‘unintended’ airstrike
Recently, the Nigerian military declared Lakurawa a new terror group.
The group operates largely in the North West part of Nigeria. However, the affected communities would not want to categorize the dreaded group as new because they have been in existence during the former governor of Sokoto administration. Importantly the security agencies have intensified action owing to the marching order by the presidency to take the fight to their hide outs.
