Managing Director of Ossiomo Power, Benin City, Dr Uwa Igiehon said the station has the capacity to provide power to several communities without electricity, following its huge investment in infrastructure and key innovation in technologies to drive the economy of Edo State.
Igiehon gave the assurance during a media tour of the facilities at Ossiomo Industrial Park in Ologbo, Ikpoba-Okha Local Government Area.
According to him, key technologies for power generation, transmission and distribution, as well as digital metering and advanced payment systems, access to affordable power supply are available to Nigerians on Ossiomo Power network.
He called for the support and participation of electricity users and other stakeholders in the state towards achieving a liberal electricity market in line with the vision of government.
Igiehon stated that Ossiomo Power is consistent with the World Bank Metrics, per capital power and access to power, which is around 1,000 KWHr per capital and 100 percent, respectively, compared to 156 KWHr/Capital and 50 percent national averages.
He stated that the plant deploys leading edge technology from technology providers around the world, with specialised infrastructure, such as quality control laboratories, quality certification centres, raw material storage and other warehousing and logistics services.
He recalled that until the coming on board of the power plant, Ologbo, which is the host community, was without power for six years.
He added that Ossiomo Power Plant network now covers over 200km around Benin metropolis with the provision of power to federal government establishments, commercial customers and communities.
