Governors of the 36 state g in Nigeria are set to meet in Abuja Today, Wednesday to discuss issues of the proposed new minimum wage.
AljazirahNigeria reports that the governors had previously rejected the federal government’s proposal of N62,000, explaining that not all states would be able to pay salaries if the new amount held.
The organised labour is however demanding N250,000 as minimum wage.
The governors’ emergency meeting is coming after the Federal Executive Council (FEC) postponed its decision on the minimum wage issue on Tuesday.
The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, on Tuesday told journalists that the FEC could not make a decision due to the involvement of local government, state governments, the federal government, and the organised private sector.
The acting Director of Media and Public Affairs for the Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF), Halima Ahmed, told Daily Trust that the governors would meet on Wednesday at 7pm in Abuja to discuss the matter.
