From Rabilu Abubakar Gombe
Gombe State government has taken a bold step towards enhancing food safety and livestock productivity by signing a N3 billion contract with Lubel Nigeria Limited for the construction of a state-of-the-art abattoir.
The initiative is part of the World Bank-assisted Livestock Productivity and Resilience Support, L-PRES, project, which seeks to modernise livestock management and promote hygienic meat processing practices in the state.
The agreement was formalised during a ceremony at L-PRES office in Gombe.
The State Project Coordinator, Professor Usman Bello Abubakar, hailed the project as a transformative milestone.
“This is more than just a slaughterhouse; it is an investment in the future of our livestock industry. The facility will operate with global best practices in hygiene, slaughtering and meat handling,” he said.
Professor Abubakar also lauded Governor Inuwa Yahaya for his visionary leadership and dedication to improving the state’s infrastructure and economy.
The Executive Managing Director, Lubel Nigeria Limited, Yunusa Yakubu assured the state of delivering a world-class facility within the agreed timeframe.
He expressed gratitude for the trust placed on his company, pledging to meet all specifications to ensure the project’s success.
The ultra-modern abattoir, upon completion, is expected to revolutionise the meat industry in Gombe, reduce health risks associated with traditional slaughter methods and create opportunities along the livestock value chain.
