After a retrospective look at his performance in the last five years, Governor Udom Emmanuel presented his scorecard at the weekend and gave his administration a pass mark, noting that indices in all sectors show effective implementation of his pre-election promises.

This was contained in his state-wide broadcast speech marking the fifth anniversary on the saddle as the fourth civilian governor of Akwa Ibom state.

“In five years, together in faith and shared hopes, we have achieved a lot for our collective well being”, Udom noted, saying his major achievements centred principally around the industrialization of the state could be seen in various spheres of physical developments in roads, health, education, agriculture, security and human capital development.

He said his administration was on the right track towards the attainment of his second term programmes tagged: ‘Completion Agenda”, which he explained would be focused on delivering all policies and programmes of government in all sectors of the state economy.

With imminent threat pose by COVID-19, the governor assured that his administration had since put machineries in place to contain the spread of the pandemic in the state as was the case during the global recession occasioned by dwindling oil revenues that lasted until 2017.

“Shortly after I was sworn in in 2015, the tail wind on our economic horizon was fiercely turbulent brought about by the sharp drop in crude oil price which later triggered a recession that lasted until late 2017.

“Even with what we were confronted with we didn’t make excuses or engaged in pity party, we went to work and our various trainings as manager of men and resources came in handy.

“Today, because of the effect of COVID-19, we are also experiencing similar challenging economic times. Like we did in the past, we will rise to the occasion and together, we will weather the storms and be counted as a great state with great economy”, he assured.

For sustainable development of the state in the post COVID-19 era, the governor, who had since set up the economic recovery team to fix the state, appealed to the main opposition All Progressives Congress (APC) to shelve the sentiments of sponsoring media attacks against his administration but be in the vanguard of rebuilding the state.
