Veteran Nollywood actor Chiwetalu Agu has shared his thoughts on marriage, urging people not to see it as a do-or-die affair.
Speaking in a recent interview, the legendary actor emphasised that while marriage is a beautiful institution, it should not be forced or endured at all costs. “Not everyone is meant to marry, and that’s okay. It’s better to stay single than to be trapped in a toxic union,” he stated.
His remarks have sparked conversations, especially among young people facing societal pressure to settle down.
Agu pointed out that many rush into marriage for the wrong reasons—family expectations, peer influence, or financial security—only to end up unhappy.
He advised singles to focus on self-development and genuine companionship rather than societal approval.
The Aki na Ukwa star, known for his witty proverbs and unique acting style, also encouraged those in troubled marriages to prioritize their well-being. “If it’s not working, walk away. Life is too precious to waste in misery,” he added.
As his statement continues to trend, fans applaud him for shedding light on an often-taboo topic in African society.
