Lupita Nyong’o Releases Book ‘Sulwe’

Kenyan born, Hollywood based actress Lupita Nyong’o has taken another dimension to her career as she authored a book title ‘Sulwe’ which is aimed at inspiring girls of colour, adding another feather to her cap.

The ravishing thespian named her first ever publication, Sulwe, which is a Luo word for star.

Taking to her instagram account to share her latest achievement to the world, she revealed she has written the book to encourage self-love for darker-skinned girls across the world. ”Sulwe holds up a mirror for dark-skinned children especially, to see themselves reflected immediately, and it is a window for all the others to cherish looking into.

She wrote “Sulwe is a children’s picture book which aims at sending a powerful message to girls of colour. It is a 48 pages book and it will be released October 15. The book talks about the heartwarming and whimsical story of a young girl named Sulwe who goes on a journey to discover her own unique beauty”.

According to the actress, even at a young age, girls are taught that light skin is preferred over dark skin and it is because of this that she came up with Sulwe to help encourage self-love for darker-skinned girls everywhere.

The actress went further to express her joy about the new book. “Jumping for joy because my book ‘Sulwe’, will be on shelves in exactly two months. The power of children’s books is how their value appreciates with time; we love them now and understand them later. I want ‘Sulwe’ to be a seed for children to grow and draw from in later years.

“No matter your age, it’s never too late to love the skin you’re in and to see the beauty that radiates from within. Over the next few months, I will share stories of stars of all ages that shine like Sulwe, with this Please join me and show me what light you shine”.
