Minister of State for Petroleum Resources ,Oil, Senator Heineken Lokpobiri, has decried the prolonged abandonment of the Brass Modern Refinery project in Bayelsa State.
During an inspection visit to Brass Local Government Area, he assessed the Ewa-ama road project leading to the Brass Petroleum Products Terminal ,BPPT, and reaffirmed the federal government’s resolve to revive critical oil and gas infrastructure in the Niger Delta.
Accompanied by the Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Midstream & Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority ,NMDPRA, Engr. Farouk Ahmed, Lokpobiri stressed that completing the ongoing projects in the region aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s development agenda.
He further assured that the government remains committed to delivering these projects within the first two years of the administration.
“It is unacceptable that such a strategic project has been left in this state for so long”, Lokpobiri stated.
“The Federal Government remains committed to ensuring that critical oil and gas infrastructure, like the Brass Refinery, is completed to create jobs and drive economic growth in the region”.
Engaging with community representatives, the Minister commended their peaceful stance despite challenges, urging continued cooperation.
A community spokesperson welcomed his visit, describing it as a step towards restoring trust in government commitments.
“We appreciate Senator Lokpobiri’s visit and his assurance that this project will receive due attention. We are hopeful that his intervention will lead to tangible progress”, he stated.
Lokpobiri assured them that the administration would prioritize the project’s completion while emphasizing that sustained peace is crucial for attracting investment and development in the region.
