  • ALGON Boss denies lobbying House with N120m.By Dolphin Max Stanley, Yola

Barely two weeks to the expiration of the tenure of local government chairmen of Adamawa state which invariably terminates on December 8, 2021, there is no indications or evidence of possible conduct of an election to pave way for the emergence of a democratically elected local government officials to run the state’s local government system in the state.

This glaring failure and inability of the Fintiri’s government to have commenced a constitutional process for the emergence of a legitimate leadership at the local government level may have precipitated speculations and allegations for a planned action to appoint caretakers and bribery of the state legislators to extend the tenure of the outgoing local government chairmen.

Only recently, the local governments were accused of attempting to lobby the state House of Assembly for tenure elongation with a whooping sum of N120million.

This allegation had prompted a response by the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), Adamawa State Chapter through it’s leadership to exonerate itself from the wide spread allegations.

Speaking to Journalists in Yola recently, the Chairman of the state chapter, Alhaji Jingi Rufai described as frivolous, mischievous, libelous and blackmail the purported rumour trending on the social that, local government council Chairmen have lobbied the state House of Assembly with a sum of N120million to extend their tenure by six months duration.

Alhaji Jingi Rufai said that the allegation was a deliberate action aimed at smearing the good image of the local government chairmen and the legislators.

“This fabricated information was not only a hoax, but a handy work of mischievous elements that always feast on misinformation, fake news, libel, blackmail and character assassination.

“To put the records straight, the tenure of local government Chairmen in Adamawa State may elapsed on 8th December 2021.

“They were democratically elected under the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to deliver dividends of democracy as enshrined in the development agenda of Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri.

“All the 21 local government Chairmen have performed above board by impacting positively on lives of people at the grassroots,” he said.

According to him, the achievement of this feat is attributable to the level playing ground and autonomy granted the local governments by the present led administration in Adamawa state, particularly the Executive, Legislature and the judiciary, emphasizing that the Honourable Members of the Adamawa State House of Assembly, under the Speaker, Aminu Iya Abbas, are also united in purpose to give Adamawa a purposeful Leadership.

He argued that the state has created for itself a reputation of transparency.

“But it has come to our notice and the good people of Adamawa State with total dismay, how some unscrupulous individuals are circulating false information that, Local Government Chairmen last Monday mobilized the sum of N120million through ALGON and delivered it to our respected Speaker, Aminu Iya Abbas to lobby for tenure extension for another six months.

“This is not only disgusting, but malicious, libelous, disparaging and undemocratic because no individual or institution will allowed such kind of irresponsibility.

“It is religiously and morally wrong for the ‘paid writer’ to mention the name of our highly esteemed Speaker and I condemn in totality the attempt to smear the good image of our members and  respected lawmakers.”, he lamented.
