In a bid to address the persistent water challenges faced by the Agba-Akin community in Ibadan, LG Electronics has generously donated a solar-powered borehole to provide a reliable source of clean water.
This innovative initiative is set to transform the quality of life for residents by ensuring consistent access to safe drinking water.
Agba-Akin, located in the heart of Ibadan, has long struggled with access to clean water. Recognizing this urgent issue, LG Electronics stepped in with a sustainable solution powered by solar energy.
The borehole is designed not only to meet the community’s water needs but also to promote the use of renewable energy, reflecting the company’s commitment to environmental sustainability.
During the commissioning ceremony, Mr. Hari Elluru, Head of Corporate Marketing at LG Electronics Nigeria, emphasized the company’s dedication to improving lives through sustainable solutions. “At LG, we believe access to clean water is a basic human right,” he said. “We are proud to support the Agba-Akin community with this solar-powered borehole, which reflects our commitment to improving lives and fostering development.”
Commitment to Corporate Social Responsibility
This donation is part of LG’s broader corporate social responsibility efforts, focused on community empowerment and sustainable development. Three years ago, the company launched a free laundry center in Ibadan, equipped with advanced, hygienic facilities to serve residents at no cost.
These projects align with LG’s mission to enhance the well-being of its customers through thoughtful and sustainable initiatives.
Dr. Wale Olatubosun, Oyo State’s Commissioner of Information, Culture, and Tourism, who attended the event as the special guest of honor, lauded LG’s dedication to community development. He urged residents to take proper care of the borehole and highlighted the importance of sustainable solutions for long-term benefits.
“LG’s commitment to Ibadan is exemplary,” Dr. Olatubosun remarked. “This project will inspire more initiatives aimed at improving lives and supporting the environment.
The solar-powered borehole is expected to significantly ease the daily struggles of the Agba-Akin community, particularly women and children who previously had to travel long distances to fetch water. By providing clean, accessible water, the project will improve public health, reduce waterborne diseases, and promote hygiene.
Expressing the community’s gratitude, Alhaji Remi Olaibi Ojuolape, a local leader, said, “We are deeply thankful to LG Electronics for this life-changing donation. Access to clean water will have a profound impact on our lives, and we are grateful for their continued support.”
With this solar-powered borehole, LG Electronics is not only providing clean water but also paving the way for a more sustainable and prosperous future for Agba-Akin.
As the company continues its efforts to support communities, projects like this reinforce its commitment to sustainability, improved living conditions, and community empowerment.
Among those present at the event were Mr. Inkyu Kim, CFO of LG Electronics; Dr. Aina Olugbemiga Ayoola, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Information, Culture and Tourism; Mr. Jad Atwi, Ibadan Branch Manager, Fouani Nigeria Limited; Alhaji Raimi Ojolowo, Imam of Central Mosque; Pastor Sunday Ekeite; and other prominent members of the Agba-Akin community.
