Labour Party, LP, has slammed an indefinite suspension on six of its top-ranking members, including Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, over allegations of anti-party activities.

The decision, announced on Tuesday, follows the submission of a report by a five-member disciplinary committee set up by the party’s National Executive Committee ,NEC, on May 2, 2025.

The committee, chaired by Deputy National Chairman, Dr. Ayo Olorunfemi, investigated various infractions allegedly committed by some party members.

Others affected by the suspension include Senator Ireti Kingibe, Senator Darlington Nwokocha, Hon. Victor Afam Ogene, Hon. Amobi Ogah, and Hon. Seyi Sowunmi.

The party stated that the suspension takes immediate effect, barring the affected individuals from participating in any party activities or representing the party in any capacity.

“All concerned institutions, including the Nigeria Governors Forum, National Assembly, INEC, and security agencies are to take note”, the statement said.

In a separate development, the party addressed the controversy surrounding Nenadi Usman, clarifying that she is not a card-carrying member of the Labour Party and therefore not subject to its disciplinary processes.

The party accused her of hypocrisy, citing her alleged involvement in corruption cases and plea bargain arrangements with the EFCC.

“Ms. Usman should come clean on her plea bargain, forfeited properties, and explain how she acquired her assets across Nigeria and beyond”, the party stated.

Defending its own records, the Labour Party insisted its financial dealings were transparent, revealing that its audited accounts had received commendation from INEC-appointed external auditors.

The party also dismissed ongoing coalition talks ahead of the 2027 elections, reaffirming its resolve to contest as an independent political platform.

“Labour Party is not interested in any coalition or merger. We will go into the 2027 general election as a stand-alone party”, the statement concluded.
