Kwara: Police Probe Businessman’s Kidnap, Arrest 37 Suspects

Kwara State Police Command is working assiduously to unravel the abduction of a petrol dealer Abbas Daniyan and his manager, Abubakar Issa. 

The duo were abducted about 23 days ago at Gbugbu town in Edu Local Government Area.

The Commissioner of Police, Adekimi Ojo, disclosed this at the weekend in Ilorin, where he also announced the arrest of 37 suspects in connection with various crimes.

He said the police  is combing the forest in search of the culprits, adding that three other kidnap incidents had happened after the May 10 saga.

The commissioner disclosed that on “May 25 at about 2200hours, Aishat Tahiru of Maiduku area in Zango, Ilorin, reported at Kulende Police Station, a disturbing case of a missing child.

“She stated that at about 2130 hours, while observing her evening prayers, she left her two months old baby, Adam Tahiru, asleep on the sofa in her room.

“Shortly after, she instructed her daughter, Mariam to to check on the baby, but to her dismay, the child was nowhere to be found.”

The commissioner said an alarm was raised immediately, prompting neighbours to conduct a search round the vicinity, but despite their efforts, the baby could not be located.

“The matter was subsequently  transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, SCID, Ilorin for further in-depth investigation.”

Ojo revealed that “tragically, during the course of  investigation, the lifeless body of the baby was discovered in a well within the same community.

“Following intelligence gathering and preliminary findings, eight suspects were arrested and are currently undergoing rigorous interrogation at the state CID.”

Other suspects were arrested for criminal conspiracy, receiving stolen property, conspiracy to commit kidnapping, illegal possession of firearms, criminal conspiracy, aiding and abetting, culpable homicide and house breaking among others.
