Kwara Govt Condemns Gender Based Violence

Kwara State government has condemned gender based violence.

Commissioner for Health, Dr Amina El-Imam, declared this at a meeting with members of Stand to End Rape Initiative in Ilorin, the state capital.

She reiterated government’s stance against acts of violence, targeted in particular at girls and women in the society.

Dr Imam emphasized that government is doing its best to sensitise the public on the consequences of violence against girls and women, warning that it is a criminal offense.

The commissioner called on residents to join government in spreading awareness, as well as stand against gender based violence.

She expressed gratitude to members of Stand to End Rape Initiative for their efforts during the sensitisation and awareness exercise, encouraging them to continue initiating impactful programmes that will benefit the people of Kwara State.

Speaking at the event, the Programme Officer, Stand to End Rape Initiative, Mr Hussein Mohammed, thanked the state government and various agencies for their unwavering support in ensuring the success of the sensitisation programme on violence against girls and women.

Mr Mohammed disclosed that the organisation had successfully achieved its goal of raising awareness and supporting the fight against violence, targeted against girls and women in the society.
