KOICA, SKICAN Empower Secondary Students On Leadership, Entrepreneurship Patriotism

The South Korea International Cooperation Association, SKICAN, in conjunction with Korea International Cooperation Agency KOICA, has empower Secondary school students with essential skills and a mindset for future success on leadership, entrepreneurship, and patriotism. .

The Program which took place on June 14, 2024, at Junior Secondary School, Dutse, Abuja, was financially sponsored by the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA).

The President of SKICAN, Oboh Joseph ESQ, setting the tone for a day filled with enlightenment and inspiration said the successful seminar focused on leadership, entrepreneurship, and patriotism for teenagers.

According to him, “the seminar, aimed at empowering students with essential skills and a mindset for future success, saying that the program featured three insightful presentations on leadership, entrepreneurship, and patriotism, followed by engaging Q&A sessions.

In his keynote address, Deputy Country Director of KOICA, Mr. Baik Khiyun with inspirational direction for the students admonished the students to use all they heard to succeed and make Nigeria proud, while emphasizing the importance of international cooperation in educational development and the critical role of youth in nation-building.

He informed that KOICA is the agency of the South Korean Government with the mandate to implement development aid programmes in partner countries.

“SKICAN and KOICA are dedicated to nurturing the next generation of leaders, entrepreneurs, and patriots. This seminar was a significant step towards achieving that goal by providing teenagers with the necessary knowledge and tools for personal success and national transformation”.

In his lecture titled with “Becoming a Leader: Inspiring Others and Leading by Example,” delivered by Mr. Peter Praise, a leadership consultant, focused on developing leadership qualities among students.

He shared valuable insights on how teenagers can inspire, lead, and learn their way to the top.

Speaking on the Basics of Entrepreneurship for Teenagers delivered by Mr. Adedotun Aderemi, turning Ideas into Reality provided the students with foundational knowledge and skills needed to become young entrepreneurs.

The speaker talked about a successful entrepreneur, discussed how to transform innovative ideas into viable businesses.

In the same vein, “Patriotism: Understanding and Embracing Your Role as a Citizen,” delivered by Mrs. Justina Obono-Obla, highlighted the importance of civic responsibility and national pride and encouraged students to contribute positively to the leadership development of their communities and country.

SKICAN presented educational materials to the students which includes exercise books, three functional dustbins were donated to the school to aid in waste management on the school premises.

The Principal, in her vote of thanks, expressed gratitude to SKICAN and KOICA for organizing the event and contributing significantly to the students’ development.
