Kogi Govt  To Sanction Head Teachers, Principals Collecting Illegal  Fees

Date:

Kogi State government has  warned principals and head teachers of public schools  to stop collecting school fees from pupils and students.

The warning followed recent reports that school administrators are demanding payment from students, despite the state government’s declaration of free education at primary and secondary levels.

Speaking with newsmen, the Commissioner of Education, Wemi Jones vowed to ensure that every child’s right to education is fee-free.

Jones said  government will sanction any principal or school administrator caught collecting money from students.

He emphasized the importance of Governor Usman Ododo’s decision to relieve parents of the burden of fees, given the current economic challenges facing the country.

“Governor Ododo has declared a state of emergency in education and every child must have access to quality education without financial barriers.

“Principals who continue to collect fees are not only doing a disservice to the state, but attempting to sabotage  government’s initiative,” he said.

The commissioner stressed that any school official found violating the free education policy will face severe consequences.

He urged parents and students to report any instance of fee collection to the appropriate authorities to ensure accountability and transparency in the education system.
