June 12: CSOs Lament Growing Hardship In Nigeria, Plan Mass Protest

Date:

…Say “Enough Is Enough”

Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) and other concerned Nigerians said they would stage s mass protest to express dissatisfaction over the growing hardship and hunger occasioned by the removal of fuel subsidy.

The CSOs; PRP Vanguard, TIB, AAC, and other notable organisations, in a statement issued on Tuesday, said, “Since May 29, 2023 when President Bola Ahmed Tinubu removed fuel subsidy, we have been plunged into even greater hardship and hunger.”

They worried that the cost of living had ballooned beyond average, causing an increase in crime and other social vices, while the political class remained unaffected.

“The price of fuel, food, transport, electricity, school fees and other basic amenities have gone up beyond what average Nigerians can afford. Hardly is any average Nigerian able to feed. We are hungry. Our children are hungry. Our youth are becoming criminals and prostitutes. Things are hard!

“Meanwhile, those who put us in this problem continue to feed fat. President Tinubu, the First Lady and the First Son have turned Nigeria’s commonwealth into their private feeding bottle. The Governors, Senators, House of Representatives and House of Assembly members are collecting fat salary and allowances. Their friends in business like Aliko Dangote and other thieves, are also smiling to the bank. Yet they tell us to tighten our belt,” the statement read.

The civil society organisations therefore called on migerians to stand up and take action by joining the peaceful mass protest.

The statement added, “We say enough is enough! IF YOU ARE HUNGRY AND ANGRY, then let us do something about our condition. Don’t sleep at home expecting your condition to become better by miracle. As they say, heaven help those who help themselves. We must stop agonizing, let’s start organizing. Join us on a peaceful mass protest: DATE: Wednesday 12 June 2024. TIME: 8 am. TAKE-OFF POINT: Underbridge Ikeja, Lagos State.”
