Secretary to Jigawa State Government, SSG, Malam Bala Ibrahim has inaugurated a 27-member Farmers-Herders Peace Committee in Dutse Local Government Area.
Inaugurating the committee, the SSG said the move was part of efforts by the state government to mitigate the clashes between farmers and herders in Baranda village and its neighbours for greater productivity in crop and livestock agriculture.
Ibrahim explained that the committee is tasked with the responsibility to educate members of the communities on the importance of peaceful coexistence.
“For fairness and equity, all interested stakeholders are included in the committee, such as traditional rulers, imams, herdsmen, farmers, security outfits and others”, he said.
The SSG urged the committee members to be fair and just in discharging their responsibilities and to justify the trust and confidence reposed on them while praying for their success.
“Let me assure all the citizens of the affected communities that the committee, which is headed by the District Head of Dutse, Alhaji Jamilu Sanusi, will be just in making peace between farmers and herders in the area”, he said.
Responding on behalf of the committee members, the chairman and district head of Dutse expressed delight with the appointment, pledged to give their best and justify the confidence reposed on them.
Members of the committee include Usman Muhammad Jahun, Special Adviser to the Governor on Security Matters, Army Representative Garrison Commander, Police Representative, ACP Garba Tukur, DSS Representative, NSCDC Representative, Rufai Dashe, and representative of the Surveyor-General.
Others are representatives of herders in Baranda and its neighbours; Alhaji Isa, Alhaji Umaru, Mati Maiunguwa, Maiunguwa Bati, Alhaji Sale Kwarai, Alhaji Yunusa Maiunguwa, Hassan Ibrahim,Ruwaji Ibrahim and Ubale Saba.
The representatives of farmers are Alhaji Ado Hara, Malam Audu Kafinta, Ma’awiya Abdullahi, Yusuf Agenda, Isyaku SA’ADU Katanga, Sale Barau, Aliyu Muhammad Kwaimawa,Safiyanu Ahmadu and Ado Kazaba, while Mustapha Isa, Staff Officer of Dutse Local Government Council will serve as secretary of the committee.
