Benue State governor, Reverend Father Hyacinth Alia has commended the resilience and indomitable spirit exhibited by youths in the face of daunting challenges.

Alia, in a broadcast yesterday in Makurdi to mark this year’s International Youth Day, IYD, described Benue youths who constitute over 60 percent of the population as vibrant, acknowledging the significant role they have played in shaping the future of the state over the years.

He also commended them for their determination and “I can do” attitude which has enabled them to rise above numerous challenges, expressing pride in their achievements in various fields, including education, entrepreneurship, sports and technology, which has continued to inspire hope and confidence in the future of the state.

The governor highlighted his administration’s commitment to empower youths through various initiatives including a partnership with Google to train 10,000 youths on Information and Communication Technology, ICT, aimed at equipping them with skills for the digital economy.

He disclosed that some youths have been selected to participate in the United Nations Volunteer Scheme, sponsored by the state government in collaboration with the United Nations.

Governor Alia equally disclosed that the ongoing renovation of Aper Aku Stadium would provide a platform for sporting activities and talent showcase, adding that his administration plans to develop sporting facilities in each of the three senatorial zones to promote sports as a unifying force and opportunity for growth.

He also announced the ongoing construction of a fashion hub in Makurdi to provide a creative space for fashion entrepreneurs, which would encourage innovation and job creation, emphasising the importance of infrastructural development, healthcare, education and security in creating a conducive environment for growth.

The governor urged them to support and cooperate with his administration, even as he advised those involved in criminal activities such as kidnapping, banditry, armed robbery, drug abuse, cultism and internet fraud to lay down their arms and embrace peace, noting that criminality leads to a dead end, while peace and hard work lead to prosperity and fulfillment.

Reaffirming his commitment to create a brighter future for Benue State where youths could thrive and reach their full potentials, the governor assured them that his administration is working tirelessly to create opportunities for their growth and development.
