Insecurity: Group Wants IGP, Delta Govt To Deploy Security To Sapele

FROM IKHILI EBALU, BENIN CITY

The President of Riverine Peace Initiative in Niger Delta, Comrade Toluwa Mulade has called on Inspector General of Police , Mohammed Akali to prevail over the daily killing going on in Sapele and other parts of Delta State.

Comrade Toluwa Mulade made this known through a press statement signed and made available to newsmen in Benin City.

He noted that in Sapele the killings have continued since last year, yet little or nothing has been done by the police to stop the indiscriminate killing .

“We are worried because election is just by the corner and nobody is doing anything to checkmate the killings of innocent people. This trend might hinder peaceful atmosphere as elections draw close.”

“The people might be scared to come out and excercise their franchise on the day of election due to fear of being killed by stray bullets. We can’t afford to fold our hands and watch like it doesn’t matter, the upcoming election is very important and does not need actions like this to mar the process”.

He stressed that security personnel should be deployed to these areas to avoid electorate being disenfranchised in the general election.

According to him, the shooting has prevented some people in those areas from collecting their PVCs as they are afraid of gun shots.

He however commended INEC for the extension of PVC collection across the country as it will go a long way to help those who were not able to meet up in the previous week.

Comrade Toluwa Mulade enjoined the electorate who have not pick up their PVCs across the country to maximize the opportunity given by INEC, pick up their permanent voters card and get prepared to vote in the general elections.
