Insecurity: FCTA To Restrict Activities Of POS Operators

By Ismaila Jimoh, Abuja

The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has taken a step towards ensuring that activities of Point of Sales (POS) operators within the territory are restricted to only commercial areas.

This is what formed part of the outcomes of the FCT Executive Committee (FCT-Exco) meeting presided over by the FCT Minister, Muhammad Musa Bello in Abuja on Monday.

According to the statement made available to newsmen, Tuesday, by the Director, Information and Communication FCT, Muhammad Sule, the EXCO has directed the Abuja Metropolitan Management Council (AMMC) to put a stop to practice whereby operators of Point of Sales are scattered around the Federal Capital City for security reasons.

He observed that since POS is a commercial enterprise, its activities should therefore be conducted only in designated commercial areas.

“Aside from the security implications, the activities of POS operators also create environmental nuisances as they serve to attract other commercial activities, thereby generating uncontrolled waste.

“The EXCO reemphasizes the importance that the present leadership of the FCT Administration places on the security and well-being of the residents and assures that it will take every necessary measure to protect all Nigerians and visitors residing in Abuja”, according to the statement.
