An independent x-ray of the NANS Presidential candidates



He is a former NANS Zone B coordinator. He presently serves as the national public relations officer, PRO. Nwankwo fondly called Atiku has been active in unionism for a long time.

Information gathered indicate that he has not done any campaign and that he is in the race in order to negotiate for the post of secretary to a viable aspirant. Assessing his performance over the years, the students are evidently not satisfied. They insist that he is the most silent national PRO and had spent close to two years serving in that capacity.


He was vice-president, national affairs in 2007. Anya is a student of the famous Federal University of Technology, Owerri (FUTO), he has founded and presided over the southern Nigerian Students Association. A humble, committed and accessible leader. He has campaigned across the country with a good level of acceptance. He is said to have been an undergraduate for over a decade and gotten endorsement from non-student groups and individuals.


He was a student of University of Benin, but information available now confirms that he has migrated to the Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma. The former Zone B coordinator contested the NANS presidential election in 2009 and is still in the race again. Aruna Kadiri is an experienced and resourceful student’s leader.


Fondly referred to as IBB, Obasi is a former Zone B coordinator. He is a student of Petroleum Training Institute, Effurum. Some members are opposed to his aspiration on the account of greed and self-centeredness. This they alleged he displayed when he was nominated to represent the zone in the 2014 national confab where he collected about ₦12million without giving account to his people. They also alleged that he used the about ₦12million to establish himself in Abuja and never returned to the Zone, as such, he cannot be given the office of President of NANS especially now that the zone needs to produce a president that will be democratic and upright.


He was a student of the Federal Polytechnic, Nekede where he was elected as a zonal director of sports. He is presently in Nnamdi Azikwe University, Awka to contest for the exalted position of NANS president. Some members say he has been in Cross River state as a businessman with his wife and children. Nwankwo is strong willed and determined, but some members believe he is in the race just to enrich his purse and boost his popularity.


Obele is a former national treasurer and postgraduate student of Nnamdi Azikwe University, Awka. He is humble and intelligent. He is one candidate that is acceptable across the power blocs and capable of pulling surprises. He was a candidate of the PDP in 2015 general elections in Anambra state for the state house of assembly.


A former national deputy senate president and a student of University of Nigeria, Nsukka. Okpaloka is a young man who will do well if he were to be organized. Information has it that he is in the race because of his relationship with the incumbent President.


A leader in the organization who has worked with so many presidents. He contested for the position of president in 2009. Tom is reportedly humble and accessible.


Igwe UNIABUJA as he is fondly called is a former students union president of the University of Abuja. He is said to be in zone C but migrated to zone B just to contest the position. He was campaign director to the incumbent president and some students believe that he is the anointed candidate of the president and some cabals. This they argue will be continuity for the incumbent president and they are opposed to it.

However, Igwe is an agile and intelligent students’ leader, the students are of the opinion that if he is elected, NANS will remain in area 3 garden, Abuja, which they are opposed to. He is now a student of Ebonyi State University, Abakaliki.


He is a student of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka. Well respected in zone B and across the country for the role he has played, Sheriff is popularly referred to as a king maker. However, his aspiration has sent pandemonium to cabals that have held on to the association for years, using it as a platform to enrich their purses. He has promised to take NANS back to campus where the original members are and to make them directly feel the impact.
