Youth wing of Igbo socio-cultural organisation, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, has commended Governor Hope Uzodimma for fixing dilapidated federal roads in lmo State.
The group, which lauded the governor for the achievement, noted that federal roads in lmo have significant economic benefits.
It dismissed media attacks on Uzodimma by some desperate politicians and opposition in the state regarding the construction of federal roads.
National President of Ohanaeze Youth Council, Comrade Igboayaka O Igboayaka, who stated this yesterday in Owerri while speaking to journalists, condemned some politicians who criticised the construction of long-abandoned federal roads in the state by Uzodimma’s administration.
According to him, the political clique that mismanaged state funds between 1999 and 2020 are now criticising Governor Uzodimma for his developmental initiatives, including the construction of Umuahia, Okigwe and Orlu federal roads connecting Imo and Anambra States.
“The administration led by Uzodimma requires constructive and objective criticism to enhance its performance.
“Criticism driven by political bias and envy from desperate politicians who misappropriated Imo State’s resources since 1999 is unacceptable to Igbo youths and progressive-minded individuals.
“The dualisation and repair of Orlu, Umuahia and Okigwe federal roads offer substantial economic advantage to Ndi-Imo and the broader Ndigbo community,” Igboayaka said.
He added that good federal roads in Imo had facilitated access for business people, thereby increasing the state’s internally generated revenue.
Observing that in the last three years, travellers within the South East utilised the e-route from Onitsha, Port-Harcourt and Owerri to Enugu and found Okigwe road to be the most convenient.
It advised that Uzodimma should broaden his scope of repairing and constructing federal roads to encompass other intra-local government roads within the state, including the road from Ntueke to Isiekenesi and further to Okwelle, the ones from Ahiara Junction to Ehime Mbano-Aba Branch, from Orlu to Ihiala and Uli, from Anara Junction Isiala Mbano to Ehime Mbano, Oriagu to Obowo 7 and 1/2 Junction, Umuna Orlu to Nkwerre and further to Amaraku, and Akokwa to Arondizuogu to Okigwe.
