IGP Names New CP For Akwa Ibom, Assumes Duty


The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mohammed Adamu, has announced the posting of new Commissioner of Police (CP) for the Akwa Ibom state Police Command.

He is Mr.

Amengheme Inobeme Andrew, taking over from Mr. Imohimi Edgal, as the 30th Commissioner of Police for the 33-year-old state.

CP Andrew, who joined the Police force as a Cadet Superintendent in 1988, had held different positions as Area Commander, Auchi; Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), Bayelsa; DCP Zonal Criminal Investigation (ZCID), Calabar, Cross River State and couple of international postings for the United Nations.

The new CP assumed duties on Monday at the state Police Command headquarters, Ikot Akpanabia, with a commitment “to strengthen visibility and community – based partnerships in policing”.

Addressing newsmen on Monday, Andrew promised “to work in collaboration with the civil society and other security agencies to bring crimes and criminalities to the barest minimum”.

He, therefore, extended his hands of fellowship to residents of the state to be in the vanguard of effective policing to ward off criminal elements from the state.
