Osun State governor, Ademola Adeleke, has rejected claims of his potential defection from the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.
The governor declared his loyalty to the PDP during a strategic meeting with party leaders on Thursday night.
Adeleke said rumours of his defection should be taken as fake news.
“My people, party elders and chiefs, I declare before you today that I am not defecting to the All Progressives Congress, APC, or any other political party.
“I remain in PDP. Ignore any fake news.”
The governor’s remarks came in the wake of the defection of prominent figures from the party.
The closed-door meeting, held at the Government House, was attended by PDP bigwigs, including ex-governor Olagunsoye Oyinlola, who addressed the participants virtually.
Chairman of Imole Movement, Wale Oladipo, said PDP remains a home for those who genuinely care for the people of Osun.
The 1999 governorship candidate of the PDP and member of the Board of Trustees, Oluwole Alabi, alongside a former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Lasun Yusuf, described PDP as a vehicle for development and human empowerment.
A member of the House of Representatives, Akanni Olohunwa, highlighted “the positive transformation occurring in Osun under PDP’s leadership” and expressed confidence in the party’s success in future electoral contests.
The meeting, coordinated by the State PDP Chairman, Sunday Bisi, was attended by Speaker Adewale Egbedun and other members of the legislature.
