Attack on Tombo community in Logo Local Government Area of Benue State by suspected herdsmen has left a man, his son and three others dead, with scores sustaining various degrees of injuries.

A victim, Mama Mbaihembe Kwaghkuma, while narrating her ordeal to AljazirahNigeria yesterday in Makurdi, revealed that the herders came at night and caused mayhem on the community, killing the victims, while those who sustained injuries are receiving treatment in different hospitals.

She said the attack on Ayilamo town has displaced many people with some taking refuge in neighbouring villages, adding that the attackers pursued them to their place of refuge.

Another victim who spoke on the condition of anonymity said youths in their numbers challenged the attackers with the guns they use for hunting, but were overpowered because of the superior weapons of the attackers.

The victim revealed they complained to soldiers who failed to respond but rather resulted to threats.

He said the angry resident gathered from the soldiers that it was the traditional ruler in the area that usually asks them not to go after the herdsmen, adding that following the discovery, the women and children took sticks to the house of the monarch, Mue Ter Ipusu, Enoch Ikumen in readiness to kill him, as they considered him a betrayal.

The informant said the traditional ruler was not found in his house, but the angry women and children allegedly used their sticks and pulled down his houses, as well as set his property ablaze.

Worried by the development, the newly inaugurated Chairman of Logo Local Government Area, Clement Kav visited Tombo people at Ayilamo where he assured them of more security.

The chairman, who was accompanied on the visit by the DPO in charge of Logo, Daniel Imongiga also visited  hospitals where some of the casualties were admitted and called on Governor Hyacinth Alia to direct more security personnel to the area to ensure the safety of lives and property.
