Heavy Explosions Rock Maiduguri Ahead Of Buhari’s Visit

Heavy bomb explosions were heard on Thursday in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital just a few hours to the arrival of President Muhammadu Buhari who was schedule to visit the state even as military men were seen battling terrorists of the Islamic State West Africa, ISWAP.

According to a local sources who confirmed to AljazirahNigeria the heavy bombs were launched at some parts of the State capital by the suspected ISWAP fighters as residents await the president.

Our correspondent learnt that the heavy bombs landed in many houses around Bulumkutu, Ngomari and Ayafe close to the Airport.

At least two different explosions were recorded early morning into some communities of Ngomari and Bulunkutu wards in Maiduguri.

The explosions, suspected to have been masterminded by terrorists, fired rockets at different directions as troops and Air Force Task Team engaged them to repel the attack.

According to eyewitnesses, the explosions started very early with the first two exploding at Gomari and the second one landing in Bulunkutua.

“Then I came out to see where it was happening, before the second one landed in our ward.

“I saw when it landed and I immediately laid on the ground. The moment it landed in the house, the whole place became dark with dusty and smoke.

AljazirahNigeria gathered that some surveillance military aircraft have been deployed to assist the ground troops to forestall any impending attack.

President Buhari is billed to commission an edifice  donated by Mohammed Indimi to the University of Maiduguri.

He is also expected to commission some projects executed by the Borno State Government.

It is not clear at this time if the president’s itinerary will be affected by the explosions.
