Sokoto State Police Command has confirmed the attack on a community in Gandi district in Rabba Local Government Area on Saturday.

According to a statement by the command, suspected terrorists who attacked the community killed four persons and kidnapped a teenager.

Spokesman of the command, DSP Sanusi Abubakar said the assailants attacked the farmers on their farms with dangerous weapons and in the process killed four persons.

Abubakar confirmed that in his situation report, the Divisional Police Officer of Rabba also revealed that an 18-year-old girl was abducted during the attack that took place in broad daylight.

In another development, gunmen yesterday abducted a Catholic priest, Reverend Father Emmanuel Silas in Zambina, Kauru Local Government Area of Kaduna State.

Confirming the abduction of the priest in a statement yesterday, Chancellor of the Catholic Diocese of Kafanchan, Emmanuel Okolo said “it is with great pain that we announce the kidnapping of our priest, Emmanuel Silas. The event occurred in the early hours of July 4 when he did not turn up for morning Mass.

“He was abducted from the parish rectory at St Charles Catholic Church, Zambina in Kauru Local Government Area of Kaduna State. We solicit for intense prayer for his quick and safe release, we equally wish to call on all and sundry to refrain from taking the law into their hands. We will use every legitimate means to ensure his quick and safe release.

“May Jesus crucified on the Cross listen to our prayers and hasten the unconditional release of his priest and other kidnapped persons”.

When contacted, the Kaduna State police spokesperson, Mohammed Jalige said the command is yet to receive the report on the abduction of the priest.

The kidnap of Father Silas came days after gunmen killed the chaplain of the Catholic Church in Kaduna Polytechnic, Vitus Borogo.

Borogo was killed when the assailants overran Prison Farm, Kujama, along Kaduna-Kachia road.

Weeks before he was killed, another Catholic priest, Joseph Bako, who was abducted in March from his residence at St John Catholic Church, Kudenda, Kaduna, was found dead in April.
