Gunmen reportedly killed 13 persons in their farms in Anguwan Mai-Giro community in Shiroro Local Government Area of Niger State.
The attack occurred on Wednesday.
In a statement, the Deputy Governor, Yakubu Garba, described the attack as “satanic, insensible, atrocious and callous”.
Garba said it is “utterly appalling and deeply disturbing” to see people perpetrate such “barbaric and vicious act” against fellow humans.
The deputy governor expressed condolences to the grieving families, residents and Shiroro community.
He added that the state government remains resolute in its quest to restore peace and security across Niger.
He asked security agencies to remain steadfast and undeterred in their efforts, promising them full support in their battle against criminal elements.
In March, bandits abducted over 20 women during an attack on a market in Madaka community, Rafi Local Government Area.
Attacks on farmers in the northern region have worsened the country’s food security crisis.
