League of Northern Democrats ,LND, yesterday said it has resolved to prioritise the political unity and advancement of Northern Nigeria, while working to foster a strong sense of community and solidarity.
This was part of the resolutions reached in a communiqué issued in Abuja at the end of the LND meeting, signed by Dr Umar Ardo, its Convener, and Emmanuel Jime, its Protem Secretary.
The group emphasised unity, outreach, and strategic planning, saying its name, which was unanimously agreed upon, reflected its collective commitment to advancing the political, economic, and social interests.
This, it added was especially with regards to Northern Nigeria within the framework of a united and democratic Nigeria.
“The LND resolved to prioritise the political unity of Northern Nigeria, recognising the diverse backgrounds and experiences within our ranks. We are committed to fostering a strong sense of community and solidarity.
“This unity will serve as the foundation for our efforts to reposition the North as a leading force in Nigeria’s political landscape”, it said.
The group added that it had also resolved to engage key stakeholders of the region to garner their support and participation in its movement.
It said the engagement would include, but not be limited to, all former Heads of State, former and serving Vice-Presidents, former Senate Presidents, and former Speakers of the House of Representatives.
It added that the engagement would also include former Chief Justices, former Service Chiefs, Inspectors General of Police, and Comptrollers General of Customs, Immigration, among others.
According to the communiqué, the involvement of the stakeholders is crucial to the success of the group’s mission.
It added that a resolution was also reached to hold a Northern Nigerian Political Summit in Kaduna to serve as a platform for discussing the region’s political future, economic development, and security challenges.
