A Socio Cultural group, the Bini Awareness Group, (BAG), have condemned the alleged attempt by governor Godwin Obaseki to distort the rich cultural heritage of the Binis by labeling Okaighele, a cherished tradition, as a cultist activity is unacceptable

The group said the labeling is an affront to our history and an embarrassment to all Edo South indigenes.

The group in a release signed by Eribo Edosa, Secretary, Bini Awareness Group also said they hold responsible, the Chief of Staff, Mr. Osaigbovo Iyoha, and the Secretary to the State Government, Mr. Ogie, as well as other Binis in the Governor’s cabinet, for their inaction and silence in the face of this assault on our heritage.

According to him, “their complicity and failure to speak out against these actions are a betrayal of the trust placed in them to represent our interests.”

Continuing, Edosa said they are dismayed by the lack of infrastructural development in their region, despite their significant contributions to the state’s economy and therefore demanded a better governance and development for Edo South.

The group urged, ” Governor Obaseki, Mr. Iyoha, Mr. Ogie, and all Binis in his cabinet to respect and preserve their cultural heritage,
address the infrastructural deficits in Edo South and Work towards uniting it’s communities, rather than dividing them.

He further stated that, “we stand united in our commitment to promoting and celebrating our Bini culture and heritage.
