FROM SAMSON ALFA, MINNA

Niger State governor, Umaru Bago has called for proactive efforts by  government at all levels to address poverty and illiteracy in the society.

Bago stated this when he received a delegation of 13 members of Syndicate 5, participating in the Executive Intelligence Management Course 18 of the National Institute for Security Studies, Abuja, on a course tour to Niger State.

The governor explained that poverty and illiteracy have  been the bane of insecurity which needs proactive measures to ameliorate the ugly trend.

He described the decision of the Institution to consider Niger State as one of their choices for the course tour as a good development, as some parts of the state are experiencing insecurity

According to the governor, Niger State is deliberately educating people to transform them from poverty to sustainable livelihoods, by using its enormous natural and human resources to achieve the objective.

The governor was optimistic that the findings by the syndicate will enable  government at all levels reshape its policies on security.

In his address at the occasion, the Leader of the delegation, R.A Bolarinwa said the 13- member Syndicate 5 is part of a larger class of 78 participants in the Executive Intelligence Management Course 18, spread across the country, with the course designed to equip strategic leaders   with the required knowledge to address the complex and dynamic security challenges in their various agencies.

Bolarinwa said the theme of this year’s course is, “Non-state actors in security management, issues, challenges, and prospects for peace and development in Africa”. It is in recognition of the enormous influence of non-state actors in helping to attain stability and growth.

He said the team was in the state to see what  government is doing to address insecurity and commended the governor for his strides.

He disclosed that at the end of the tour, there will be presentation of report at plenary and subsequently, there will be African, as well as world tours where reports, findings and recommendations will be made.
