From Henry Ibya, Makurdi
Benue State government has dismissed a statement by the Network for Transparent Governance, NTG, alleging that Governor Hyacinth Alia raised N300 billion to launder his image abroad.
It described the claim as a “disgraceful tissue of lies” and a “campaign of deliberate misinformation.”
Reacting to the allegation in a statement yesterday in Makurdi, Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Tersoo Kula, said there was no truth to the allegations and challenged the group to provide evidence to support their claims.
He explained that Governor Alia’s visit to the United States of America was for a seminar at Harvard University, where he presented a paper on democracy and economic growth in Nigeria.
Kula emphasised Governor Alia’s commitment to fight insecurity and his efforts to attract partnerships and seek solutions to the long-standing security challenges affecting Benue.
He described the governor as a committed servant-leader and a patriotic Nigerian who has never compromised the welfare or dignity of Benue people.
Kula called on well-meaning Nigerians, the diplomatic community and media practitioners to disregard the publication, describing it as a “dangerous distraction manufactured by enemies of progress.”
