Benue State governor, Reverend Father Hyacinth Alia has condemned the recent attack on Tse-Orbiam and Ahume communities in Gwer-West Local Government Area, which resulted in the death of scores of people.

The governor, in a statement on Sunday by his Chief Press Decretary, Tersoo Kula, also expressed outrage over the shooting of a Catholic priest, Reverend Father Solomon Atongu, by herder terrorists on  Makurdi-Naka road.

Governor Alia, however, praised God for the life of the priest who is now stable after being in critical condition.

He expressed solidarity with the Catholic community, particularly the bishop and faithful of  Makurdi Diocese, as they continue to pray for the quick recovery of the priest.

Describing the attacks as heinous and barbaric, the governor noted that they were carried out just metres away from a military checkpoint.

He reaffirmed his commitment to the safety and security of the people of Benue State and called on security agencies to intensify their efforts in safeguarding communities.

He directed security agencies to go after  terrorists and ensure that the kidnapped persons who were with Atongu are rescued unhurt.
