Gombe State governor, Inuwa Yahaya, has launched the distribution of ₦1.5 billion support fund to aid 10,000 flood victims.
The initiative targets Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, MSMEs, vulnerable households and persons with disabilities, ensuring that they recover and rebuild their livelihoods.
Speaking at the launch, Governor Yahaya emphasized his administration’s commitment to prioritise people’s welfare through initiatives that empower communities and businesses.
“Our administration remains steadfast in its focus to alleviate poverty and rebuild lives. This support is not only about recovery, but fostering resilience and growth,” he stated.
He also acknowledged the contributions of the federal government, Northeast Development Commission, NEDC, and other stakeholders, urging the beneficiaries to use the funds judiciously for sustainable development.
The Chief of Staff, Alhaji Abubakar Kari, highlighted the transparent selection process, ensuring the inclusion of vulnerable groups.
Commissioner for Special Duties, Shehu Abdullahi, outlined the extent of the flood’s impact, which damaged over 2,500 houses, farmland and infrastructure, commending the governor’s swift response.
The beneficiaries, represented by Alhaji Uba Abdullahi, praised the intervention’s potentials to rejuvenate businesses and stimulate economic growth.
