Secretary to the Government of the Federation, SGF, Senator George Akume led a high-powered delegation from the federal government to Jigawa State to express sympathy over the tragic fuel tanker explosion in Majiya town,Taura Local Government Area.
The tragic incident, which claimed over 100 lives, left the entire state in mourning.
The delegation include the Ministers of Defense and Interior, Muhammad Badaru Abubakar and Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, respectively; Governor of Kwara State and Chairman of Nigeria Governors Forum, Abdulrazaq Abdurrahman; Corps Marshal of the Federal Road Safety Commission, FRSC, Shehu Mohammed; Director-General of the National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA, Zubaida Umar; and other high-ranking officials.
The delegation, accompanied by Governor Umar Namadi and other state government officials, visited the victims receiving treatment at Rasheed Shekoni Federal Teaching Hospital in Dutse and later proceeded to Majia where they inspected the site of the tragic explosion and offered condolences to their families.
They also paid a courtesy visit to the Emir of Ringim, Alhaji Sayyadi Ringim to offer condolences on behalf of the federal government.
Speaking on behalf of President Bola Tinubu, the SGF expressed the federal government’s deep sorrow and assured that assistance would be provided through NEMA and other relevant agencies to support the victims and their families.
Senator Akume pledged government’s commitment to ease the suffering of those affected by the tragedy.
Also, Governor Abdurrahman expressed sympathy to the government and people of Jigawa State, assuring that the NGF stands ready to provide support during these trying times.
He highlighted the unity and solidarity of all Nigerian states in confronting challenges and extending help to those in need, reaffirming their commitment to national cooperation and mutual aid.
Responding, Governor Namadi expressed gratitude to President Tinubu and Governor Yusuf for their compassion and support.
He also acknowledged the numerous condolences and support from governors across the country, expressing deep appreciation for their solidarity.
The governor reassured the people of Jigawa that his administration would continue to offer the necessary support to the victims and their families, as the state mourns this enormous loss.
He emphasized the importance of safety precautions and the need to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
