Some leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Bauchi State, including, have distanced themselves from the party’s State Congress held in the state on Saturday.

According to sources, party leaders in the State were holding a meeting with stakeholders on the way forward and iron out certain grey areas over who got what in the State executive council of the party in order to avoid any potential crisis.

Our correspondent said that Malam Adamu, who is the leader of the party in the State was insisting on his anointed candidate becoming the next party chairman, members rejected a candidate brought forward by Dogara.

It was further learnt that Adamu’s preferred candidate was not being accepted by majority of members who alleged that he was not an active member of the party, which lost power in the state in 2019.

A prominent member of he party who does not want mentioned his name in print told Alja zirahnews that a faction of the party is seeking continuation in office for the outgoing incumbent caretaker chairman, Alhaji Uba Nana, which is being opposed by many party members.

According to Aljazirahnews, those opposed to Nana’s emergence as substantive chairman of the party based their opposition on the ground that he was in office when crisis hit APC in the build up to the 2019 general election, which saw some chieftain leaving the party and its eventual ouster from government by the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

A member of the outgoing caretaker committee of the party, who spoke with journalists on condition of anonymity, said that party leaders were doing everything possible to avoid another round of crisis.

When our correspondent contact some of the party members,  the outgoing official said, “What we are doing is a top secret between our party members. As soon as we taken the decisions, we will go to the press.”

Aljazirahnews learnt that members are at logger heads with top party men, including Minister of Education, Malam Adamu Adamu, and a former Speaker, Right Honourable Yakubu Dogara, over imposition of party officials, a development that heightened tension among members of the opposition party in the State following the secrecy and cover-up that highlighted the party’s Saturday’s State congress.

A party stalwart, Alhaji Shehu Bagdat, advised the party to ensure fairness, equity and justice in the conduct of its state congress with a view to avoiding a repeat of ugly experience in the party.

He added that only fair play, justice and level playing ground for all contestants would enable APC to be well positioned ahead of the 2023 electives to take over the power.
