Fresh attack looms in Abuja, states as Boko Haram threatens to attack public places
  • Bauchi, Katsina, Imo, Kano, Kebbi, Sokoto, Adamawa, Yobe, Borno also at risk
  • Military on top alert

There are indications that security alert has been heightened in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja and some states across the nation over a reported threat of attack by Boko Haram insurgents.

A document which purportedly emanated from the army headquarters Abuja that is being circulated widely online especially in WhatsApp groups in the past few days shows that the retreating insurgents may be planning to attack targeted public places which include worship and government establishments in Kano, Kebbi, Sokoto and Adamawa states.

The document also noted that markets in Bauchi, Katsina and Imo states may also be attacked in the next few weeks.

It also indicated that the newly reopened schools in Adamawa, Yobe and Borno states may equally serve as targets for the insurgents who have been rapidly losing their stranglehold in many parts of the north east in the wake of the recent gains by the nation’s security forces.

Police facilities including prisons buildings are believed to be some of the prime targets of the latest threat.

It would be recalled that Abubakar Shekau the embattled leader of the sect had in a new video threatened fresh but more vicious attacks on the Nigerian state.

Shekau is presently battling Abu Mussab Albarnawi the son of his erstwhile leader, Muhammed Yusuf, to retain the leadership and control of the sect.

The 24-minute video, which was partly in Arabic and ended largely in Hausa, had issued direct threats to the President Muhammadu Buhari, the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Tukur Butatai and the spokesman of the Nigeria Army, Sani Usman, whom they labeled as their avowed enemies and infidels.

The medium could not verify the authenticity or source of the document from the army headquarters as at press time.

Aljazirahnews however noticed an increased security presence across the capital city in the past few days since the video was released.
