Iguson Educational Foundation has awarded scholarship to 29 students in its maiden edition of their educational empowerment scheme.
The foundation, established by the member representing Ohaozara East Constituency at the Ebonyi State House of Assembly, Chikezie Nwankwo, empowered the beneficiaries with N100,000 each and other educational materials to enhance their learning process.
Earlier in his remarks, Governor Francis Nwifuru stated that the lawmaker had done well to partner the educational programme of the state government and described him as a human builder whose good works would be rewarded by posterity.
Nwifuru, represented by the member representing Izzi West Constituency, Abiri Godwin Abiri, commended the leadership of the foundation for their transparency and coordination, and implored them to monitor the beneficiaries to ensure that the educational purpose for which the money was released is achieved.
He urged the beneficiaries to shun social vices.
On his part, Nwankwo said they had been silent in the award of scholarship since 1998 when the foundation was established and that he decided to make it public in 2025.
He described Ohaozara East as the cradle of education in the South-East region, having produced the first Education Minister, Aja Nwachukwu. He maintained that the scholarship was in support of the educational progmmmes of Governor Nwifuru who has given scholarship to first class graduates to study overseas.
Chairman of the event, Dr Uche Iburu said it was the first of its kind in Ohaozara East and lauded the lawmaker for his willingness to upgrade the educational standard of his constituents.
One of the beneficiaries, Mr Nnachi Ikechukwu of Alex Ekwueme Federal University, Ndufu-Alike Ikwo, pledged that they would make the best use of the opportunity and thanked the facilitator for the largesse.
