Former Political Appointees Threaten To Sue Kebbi Govt Over Unpaid Severance Benefits

From Haruna Aliyu Usman, Birnin Kebbi

Some former political appointees who served under the former governor of Kebbi state Saidu Nasamu Dakingari and the incumbent governor Atiku Bagudu have threatened to sue Kebbi state government for failing to pay them their severance gratuities years after they finished serving.

The appointees led by Abdullahi Muhammad Lamba (Dan Masanin Yauri ) said that they have already concluded arrangements with a legal team to sue the Kebbi state government over their failure to settle them their severance benefits and furniture allowances for the years they have served the two separate governments in Kebbi state.

He contended that, severance gratuities and furniture allowances are enshrined in the constitution therefore an obligation not a previlege, and any government who inherited it as a liability is under the obligation to pay “both Nasamu and the sitting governor Bagudu whom we served in various political positions have failed to settle us hence our reason to seek redress in a law court he said.

Lamba added that, he served as special adviser special duties for Universal Basic Education Board for two years under Nasamu government but was never paid a dime as furniture allowance and was as well denied severance gratuities, while under Bagudu he served as permanent commissioner Civil Service Commission (CSC) with the governor’s uncle Mr Mahe as the chairman of the commission neither of them were paid furniture and severance benefits.

Similarly, the immediate past secretary of Kebbi state independent electoral commission (KSIEC) Alhaji Kabiru Yakaji has not been paid his severance gratuities after serving the state electoral body, so three of them according to Lamba are set to sue Kebbi government for refusing to settle them even as he also served as chief of staff to Nasamu.

He maintained that, only the court can settle the fued between them since the government turned deaf ear to their plights and demands.
