Federal government has launched a probe into a viral video showing the neglect of accident victims at the Emergency Unit of the Federal Medical Centre, FMC, Jabi, Abuja.
The video, which circulated widely on social media platforms, showed the victims left unattended to by the hospital staff after being brought in by a public spirited individual, who was heard in the video condemning the negligence of the workers.
The unidentified man, who recorded the footage, said he found the victims on the road and transported them to the hospital for urgent care.
He frowned at the staff for refusing to provide immediate assistance, even as one cited lack of gloves.
However, minutes later, as also seen in the video, the some workers were seen assisting to lift one of the severely injured victims into the emergency unit, while others were seen leap-walking into the unit on their own.
The Public Relations Officer, Obadiah Gana, in a statement, confirmed that the hospital has begun a comprehensive investigation into the incident.
Preliminary findings, according to the hospital, indicate that the emergency department had adequate supply of essential medical items, including gloves, resuscitation equipment and medications.
The hospital also stated that there was no shortages of trolleys or wheelchairs and that interactions with on-duty staff and other stakeholders are ongoing.
Gana emphasised the hospital’s commitment to transparency and quality service, noting that FMC Abuja maintains multiple feedback channels—such as visible phone numbers, QR codes and email contacts to engage patients and the public.
