FROM Rabilu Abubakar, Gombe
Federal government has bolstered healthcare in Kaltungo with the donation of anti-snake venom worth millions of naira to Kaltungo Snakebite and Research Hospital, a key centre for treating snakebite victims in the north.
The intervention came after an appeal by the Mai Kaltungo, Engr Saleh Muhammad, to the Minister of Health, Dr Ali Muhammad Pate.
During a visit to the minister, the Mai highlighted the plight of underprivileged patients who are unable to afford treatment for snakebites, urging federal assistance.
Facilitating the delivery, the Chairman of Kaltungo Local Government Area, Iliya Suleiman ensured the prompt transportation of the anti-venom from Abuja to the hospital. Expressing gratitude, he said:
“During my recent visit to the hospital, I witnessed the suffering of patients firsthand. This timely support will alleviate their hardship and we will ensure that the anti-venom is properly utilised,” Suleiman said.
He also commended the federal government, Gombe State Ministry of Health and Governor Inuwa Yahaya for their roles in securing the life-saving supplies.
He praised the hospital staff for their unwavering dedication to patient care.
Chief Medical Director of the hospital, Dr Nicolas Hamman lauded Mai Kaltungo’s relentless advocacy for the community.
“We treat six to seven snakebite cases daily. This donation will save countless lives as we continue to face challenges such as manpower shortages,” he said.
