Federal Capital Territory Internal Revenue Service (FCT-IRS) has disclosed that it generated a sum of N43 billion as taxes collected in the month of January 2025.

This disclosure was made by the FCT-IRS Acting Executive Chairman, Michael Ango during a roadshow in Abuja which was organised by the Service to sensitized members of the public on compliance with tax obligation.

Ango also stated that arrangements are in top gear for the establishment of tax payment kiosks in plazas, markets across the territory by the Service, saying that the decision was born out of complains made by some members of the public about non availability of payment points closed to them.

According to him, sources of taxation for the Service include personal income tax, capital gains taxes, stamp duties from property taxes and entertainment tax which he said will recieved top priority this year.

He explained that about N262 billions was collected as tax last year as against the set target of about N250billion, but target for this year is yet to be set by the FCT Administration and the National Assembly.

He also explained that numerous projects that are springing up across the FCT under the leadership of Barr. Nyesom Wike were made possible because of taxation.

Ango charged the residents to always file their taxes as at and when due. He stated that the filling deadline for the year was 31st of January while the second deadline would take another 30 days.

He commended those companies that are complying with payment of their taxes, but warned that defaulting ones would not be spared as appropriate notices will soon be issue them.

” For those companies that are complying with the payments, we are going to write and commend them, And for those who did not file, we are also going to be sending out penalties for non- compliance, and then give them a chance of comply.

” We have another deadline coming up in another 30 days or so, which is the individual annual returns. The law mandate every person, wether in employment or not, to file their annual income tax returns by the 1st of March every year. And this is one of the things we hope this road show will be able to achieved.

He revealed that penalty for non-compliance is minimum of N500. 000, adding that letter would soon be sent out to defaulters for them to pay.
