FCE Gombe Staff Union Honours Outstanding Members

The Colleges of Education Academic Staff Union COEASU of the Federal College of Education (FCE) Gombe has honoured 13 of their past chairmen and secretaries for their contribution to the growth of the union. They were honoured with ‘productivity award’

Dr Amina Haruna Abdul, Chief lecturer, School of Vocational Education, department of home economics, who served as secretary of the union between 2000- 2002 was among the awardees.

In an interview with Aljazirah Nigeria, Dr Amina Abdul, expressed appreciation for the honour and promised to do more for the institution.

“I feel happy and honoured that the little I have contributed to the development of the union has been recognized.

“I call on the younger ones to put in their best in any office or responsibility they find themselves. Surely, their efforts will not go in vain and history will reveal what they have done”. She said.

She used the medium to thanked the organisers and the leaders of the Union for the award says her Door is always open when ever the need of her assistance or contribution that moved the Union and FCE (T) forward.

In his response, the Chairman of the Union Dr Ishaq Mohammad, attributed that the Union has decided to organised get together which is first of its kind to know each other becouse some of the new lecturers are not well known to old staffs..

Dr Ishaq further said that for the past ten years such meeting has not hold and there is need for occassional meeting saying that the next meeting would not be in a distant time.

He added that not every Federal Collage of education has this type of union. He calls on other FCEs to emulate FCE Gombe. He said that there are meeting at zonal, and National level.

He therefore urged other sister union to copy COEASU because its importance to be meeting with thier association members time to time.

Those honoured with the awards are 6 past Chairmen 5 secretaries and other stakeholders in the Union, some were in attendance while some are dead. Others include ex-staff holding professorship in other institutions.
